In our First series comparison guide, Affordable Luxury vs. Luxury Grills (Delta Heat vs. Twin Eagles), we talked about how luxury brands like Twin Eagles, have created affordable luxury lines that provide the quality you can get from a luxury grill at a lower price point and compared the key differences between the two models so you can decide which one is the right fit for you.
In this guide, we are going to compare another top of the line manufacturer, Lynx, and their affordable luxury line, Sedona by Lynx. Manufactured in the USA, Lynx grills are beautifully crafted and offer a luxury experience for grill connoisseurs. While Lynx grills do come with a higher price tag, it’s important to remember that these grills are a culinary work of art and top of the line machinery.
To remain competitive in the grill market, luxury brand manufacturer Lynx, introduced a lower, more cost effective line Sedona, that does not compromise quality. While Sedona remains consistent in the quality of craftsmanship you get from their luxury grills, there are key differences between the two that we are going to breakdown to help you figure out which grill is the best one for you and your cooking needs.
Let’s take a deeper look into these two models!
Sedona is manufactured by Lynx and is their affordable luxury line of grills. Lynx manufactured Sedona grills to have the same quality and to be recognizable, keeping the design and look that Lynx is known for.
The Sedona model is considered a more ‘casual’ option targeted towards home cooks who want the reliability offered by Lynx without paying a luxury price. Sedona offers both built in and freestanding models in three sizes, 30”(2 main burners), 36”(3 main burners) and 42”(3 main burners), offering less size options compared to Lynx professional grills.
Sedona offers similar design features to Lynx grills like LED control panels, expansive heavy duty stainless steel grates designed to provide greater depth which gives you more cooking surface, a spring assisted hood for easy opening and closing of the hood and interior halogen lights to illuminate the cooking surface.
The main differences between Sedona and Lynx professional grills lies in the burners, prosear burner, ignition and exterior grades of stainless. Sedona grills have an electric spark igniter, contain an 18 gauge stainless steel U-burner that emits 23,000 BTUs engineered to endure temperatures up to 900 degrees and ceramic radiant briquettes that generate a perfectly even heat across the base of the grill. The exterior stainless grade of the grill is 201.
With the Sedona model, you have the option to add the patented ProSear Infrared burner that will separate your grill into two different zones offering variable temperature control.
For example, you can purchase your grill with the option to have 2 main burners and the Prosear Infrared burner as your third burner.
Another optional feature is the single speed rotisserie kit that has a dedicated infrared burner that allows you to cook more on your grill without the main dish taking up inventory on your grates. Sedona offers great complimentary cooking and convenience products for your outdoor kitchen like refrigeration, drawers, outdoor trash bins and single or double side burners to create the ultimate outdoor experience.
Prices will vary based on the features and size of the grill.
Now that you have a breakdown of the features the Sedona has to offer, let’s talk about the Lynx and breakdown some of the key differences.
Lynx is the world’s most luxurious grill line on the market. These grills are made with top of the line engineering, craftsmanship and quality. Lynx professional grills come in both freestanding and built in models in four sizes 30”(2 burners), 36”(3 burners), 42”(3 burners) and 54”(4 burners).
Like the Sedona, you can expect design features like LED control panels, expansive heavy duty stainless steel grates that are thicker than Sedona grills but designed to provide greater depth which gives you more cooking surface, a spring assisted hood for easy opening and closing of the hood, and (2) interior halogen lights to illuminate the cooking surface, but an additional design feature that the Lynx has is the rear hood wind deflector that allows the grill to vent properly, stabilizing critical grill surface temperatures when cooking with the grill lid closed. So if you’re located in a location with high winds, this additional feature comes in handy!
You’ll notice luxury upgraded features in the Lynx professional grill when it comes to ignition, burners and infrared burners. Lynx grills use a hot surface ignition that lights your grill with the push of a knob. This ignition system uses electricity to bring a small heating element to a red hot glow, which creates a steady heat source of heat to ignite fuel and compared to an electric ignition ignitor, they are more durable long term.
The most distinct difference between Sedona and Lynx are the burners. While Sedona uses a stainless steel U-burner and offers the additional ProSear burner, Lynx professional grills use two different types of burners, ceramic burners and the patented trident burner. While most manufacturers typically use brass burners, over time grease build up clogs the holes and causes the burner to corrode over time.
Lynx was determined to stand out from their competition and upgrade their burners to help avoid this issue, and in 2018 developed the unique Cordierite Ceramic burner. The cordierite ceramic is made from the same material in kilns and commercial ovens, giving them the ability to sustain extremely high temperatures.
Ceramic burners are an improved heat source that outputs 25,000 BTUs per burner and retains and radiates heat better than any metal burner can. The burners are also self-cleaning, so every time you heat up the grill you consistently clean the burners, vaporizing the drippings that would normally clog or corrode traditional burners.
Lynx professional grills also use infrared trident burners. The trident burners bring restaurant quality heat right to your backyard. The trident burners directly heat the grates with 23,000 BTU’s of intensive infrared heat. The most unique feature of these burners is their temperature control, ranging from 300-1000 degrees, offering cooking versatility where you can slow cook and sear! Lynx is the only company that has utilized infrared heat to go from high end temperatures you would see in a restaurant to temperatures you would use for low and slow cooking. Lynx is also the only manufacturer to offer a lifetime warranty on their sear burner, which in our eyes, is a BIG deal. You have the ability to set up your grill with all ceramic burners, add one trident burner or all trident burners. All of these options are available without an increase on the price of the grill.
Laid on top of the ceramic burners are ceramic briquettes which also retains heat and evenly distributes heat across the surface of the grill for even cooking results.
Unlike the Sedona, the rotisserie system comes standard in all four sizes of Lynx grills. The rotisserie system has a dedicated infrared burner, but varies from the Sedona with selectable positions and variable speed feature, giving you the ability to turn your rotisserie at high, medium or low speeds. Like Sedona, Lynx also has an impressive lineup of matching outdoor kitchen equipment, not just grills. If you love entertaining, a functional outdoor kitchen will allow you to interact with your friends and family, while also being in charge of the grill. Lynx offers the widest selection of outdoor storage options like built-in stainless steel cabinets, outdoor trash bins and cocktail stations in a variety of sizes. They also offer a wide selection of outdoor appliances such as refrigerators, griddles, pizza ovens and warming drawers so you don't have to run back and forth from the grill to the house.
With all of the upgrades that the Lynx professional has compared to the Sedona, you can expect to pay a premium price tag depending on the size and features you want for your grill.
